Fire Safety Information

The Castine Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind everyone to PLEASE test your smoke detectors monthly, only properly functioning detectors will save lives. Also, remember to change your batteries with the change of time (April & October).

Burn Permits

Anyone wishing to burn brush, building debris, or have a camp fire, etc., please stop by town hall, the fire department or get in touch with one of our fire wardens for a burning permit. It is unlawful to have a fire without a permit. The permit does not relieve the property owner of any liability from damage to property of others or possible fire suppression cost. Building debris must be clean lumber.( No shingles, siding, tire or other like materials. )  Burning without a permit is a Class E crime in Maine.  For more information please refer to the following link: Permits required by State Law.
