Operating a volunteer fire department requires the cooperation of all of our members, as well as the community at large. Our organization is a diverse group of people with different genders, ethnicity, nationalities and ages. Much of this diversity is thanks to the students at Maine Maritime Academy who volunteer their free time with the department. Those members who come from the community of Castine are also a diverse group with differing backgrounds, skills and experiences. The fire service does not require everyone to wear an air pack and enter burning buildings; there are many different jobs, to go around. Consequently, CVFD has a place for everyone.
